Preface

In the year 2010, PropertyTabs emerged from a passion to innovate and address the inefficiencies prevalent in existing real estate portals. As a participant in my familyโ€™s real estate business, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by both agents and clients in navigating the available property platforms. Motivated by a desire to streamline the process and create a tailored solution for the Chandigarh real estate market, I embarked on the journey to establish PropertyTabs.

Problem Statement

Existing national-level property portals lacked the necessary features and filters specific to the Chandigarh real estate market. Issues such as incomplete sector lists, inconsistent property measurement units, and limited functionality hindered the efficiency of property transactions for agents and clients alike.

Solution

PropertyTabs was conceptualized as a comprehensive solution to the challenges plaguing Chandigarh’s real estate sector. By leveraging my expertise in UX design and project management, I led the development of a platform tailored to the unique needs of local agents and clients. Key features included:

  • Comprehensive sector lists and standardized property measurement units for accurate listings.
  • User-friendly interface and intuitive navigation designed to enhance the property search and browsing experience.
  • Extensive research and documentation to ensure a deep understanding of user pain points and preferences.
  • Collaborative efforts with design and development teams to translate insights into practical solutions.
  • Personalized branding strategy to differentiate PropertyTabs and establish a strong market presence.

Implementation

The development of PropertyTabs was a meticulous process that involved extensive research, planning, and collaboration. Key implementation steps included:

  • Conducting in-depth interviews with government real estate offices and industry leaders to gather insights and data.
  • Documenting user flows and requirements to inform the design and development process.
  • Managing the project timeline, resources, and team communication to ensure seamless execution.
  • Overseeing domain registration, hosting setup, and technical infrastructure to support the platform’s launch.
  • Providing clear instructions and guidance to the design and development teams based on user feedback and industry best practices.

During the planning phase of PropertyTabs, I recognized the importance of having comprehensive and accurate data to provide users with a reliable platform for their real estate needs. To achieve this, I proactively approached local government real estate departments, including the Chandigarh Housing Board, utilizing the Right to Information Act to obtain valuable property information. This data was instrumental in enriching the website’s database and ensuring that users had access to in-depth and up-to-date property listings. By incorporating this information, PropertyTabs aimed to offer a robust and reliable solution for individuals navigating the Chandigarh real estate market.

I used to create wireframes using Windows XP MS Paint. Here is the initial design of the header. The seven tabs shown in the wireframe inspired the name of the website, PropertyTabs

Impact

Although PropertyTabs was not launched publicly, its development process and impact were significant:

  • Enhanced user experience: PropertyTabs aimed to revolutionize the real estate experience in Chandigarh by offering intuitive features and functionalities tailored to local needs.
  • Streamlined property transactions: The platform’s comprehensive sector lists and standardized measurement units promised to simplify property searches and transactions for agents and clients.
  • Personalized branding: Through strategic branding efforts, PropertyTabs aimed to establish a distinct identity and resonate with its target audience in the competitive real estate market.

Conclusion

PropertyTabs represents a testament to my entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation in the real estate sector. While the platform was not launched publicly, its development process underscored the importance of user-centric design and collaborative problem-solving. As I continue my journey as a UX designer, the lessons learned from PropertyTabs will continue to inform my approach to creating impactful digital experiences.

Project Files

While PropertyTabs was never launched, I have meticulously preserved all project files, including communication logs with development and design teams, wireframes, and documentation. These files serve as a testament to the extensive planning and effort invested in the project. Additionally, I have compiled a slideshow showcasing key communication exchanges with the development team, offering a glimpse into the collaborative process behind the project’s development. Interested parties are welcome to reach out for access to these project files and the slideshow for review or reference, demonstrating the thorough approach to project management and documentation.
